We converted this 10/22 for shooting steel challenge. The barrel was originally a bull barrel 18″. We took a 10/22 barrel blank and cut it down to 5″. The barrel then had a thin 4130 tube pressed on and it was pinned and welded to a total length of 16 1/2″. This process of changing the barrel shaved 2lbs off the weight of the rifle while maintaining it’s legal status as a rifle. The barrel and tube were then polished as one and blued. Accuracy is excellent and for the short distance in Steel Challenge the velocity lost isn’t noticed.
