We had a customer who wanted to convert their left hand 10/22 PRS gun into a 10/22 speed steel rifle. The difficulty was there wasn’t a light weight barrel manufacture for this due to the change in extractor location.
He got a used factory 10/22 barrel which we cut a second extractor notch in it. We cut it down to 5.5″ of rifling and then pinned/welded an aluminum sleeve up to 16.3″ of total length. We also used a high 500F temperature sleeve retainer to insure a solid forever attachment. This reduced the barrel weight from his PRS gun by almost 2lbs. He also got a factory chamber, and hammer forged barrel out of it which is higher quality then some of the aftermarket we have seen. This was done as kind of an experiment so later finishing and refinement to the weight/harmonics may still happen.
Eventually he plans in integrate his left hand action into the new CPFIREARMS Dragonfly: https://cpfirearmsllc.com/dragonfly It seems like it is one of the few chassis options that will work for a left hand action 10/22.
